Additional Fees (for Safety Net prices)

These are discretionary charges that can be applied to general patients if a pharmaceutical item has a dispensed price for maximum quantity less than the general patient co-payment amount.

The General Patient Charge listed on the PBS website includes these values set at the maximum value https://www.pbs.gov.au/info/healthpro/explanatory-notes/front/fee.

If you opt to charge less than the maximum allowed value, then the calculated price displayed on the Dispense Form (where there are no set prices) will be less than the General Patient Charge listed on the PBS website.

To manage the SN Recording Fee and Allowable Ext. Fee

Either:

1. Check the Use Max. allowed govt fee checkboxes to use the Government's maximum fee. When this option is selected, Minfos will automatically adjust the value if the government changes it, or

2. Enter the required value.

a. If you attempt to enter a value higher than the Government's maximum a Configuration error prompt is displayed, click Okay and enter a value in the range displayed on the prompt.

b. If you manually enter a value and the Government:

  • Increases the maximum fee - then your value will be retained
  • Decreases the maximum fee - Minfos will automatically reduce these fees during the dispense update process so that the maximum fee is not exceeded

3. Click Okay to save.

To manage the minimum PBS patient contribution for under co-payment scripts

The PBS defines the maximum General Patient Contribution and this value should not be exceeded for PBS prescriptions.
The PBS Min. Pat. Contrib field allows you to set a minimum patient contribution for under co-payment scripts but should only be set if you have permission to exceed the maximum General Patient Contribution as set by the PBS.

By default, these. fields are set to 0.00, meaning that the current drug pricing rules will apply when dispensing an under-co script, i.e., the maximum General Patient Contribution cannot be exceeded.

To change this value:

1. Check the Allow max PBS price to be exceeded checkbox.

2. Enter the minimum price.

3. Click Okay to save.

When an under co-payment prescription is dispensed to a patient and the value set in the PBS Min. Pat. Contrib. field is greater than the PBS maximum General Patient Contribution the price to customer will be set as the PBS Min. Pat. Contrib.

The PBS General Patient Contribution for co-payment scripts cannot be exceeded unless the script is changed to Private.
