National Health Regulations allow pharmacists to dispense medicine before the customer has supplied a written prescription.

In urgent cases, a prescriber may tell you the details of the prescription or send a fax of the written and signed prescription. This type of prescription is an Owing prescription.

There are two stages to managing an owing prescription:

  • Dispensing the supply as an owing prescription
  • Receiving the owing script

Both of these workflows will be covered in this topic.

Dispense an Owing script

The workflow to dispense an owing prescription is very similar to the standard workflow for dispensing other scripts. The dispenser simply needs to check the Owing Script checkbox in the Minfos Dispense Form.

This video will demonstrate how to dispense an owing script in Minfos.

Receive Owing scripts

After dispensing a script as an owing supply, the customer or customer’s prescriber must supply the pharmacy with the original prescription. The owing script can then be marked as received in Minfos.
