k. Dates  and Frequency

Choose the dose Frequency from the drop-down menu and the Start Date of the medication. You can use the date picker or enter dates manually. Dates that pre-date today’s date must be entered manually.

The End Date is optional unless the Short course medication checkbox is checked or the selected frequency type is Varies.

Most frequency types are self-explanatory, e.g. daily, alternate days or fortnightly. Two frequency types that are different are Varies and Recurring Varied Dose.

Varies: Dosage varies over a set period of time. For example, when a dose is being tapered off and ended. An End Date is required (a maximum of 90 days from today’s date).

Recurring Varied Dose: A dose that recurs at the same time, on the same day, each week. For example, Thyroxine 100mg on weekends, 50mg on weekdays.

For Varies and Recurring Varied Dose, the dosage fields will not display. To add a dose for these frequency types, click on the date/time cell and enter the dose. Work though the dose matrix to set the doses for the patient.

For Varies, use the navigation controls to navigate to future dates.

The example below shows a Recurring Varied Dose of 1 tablet on weekdays and two tablets on weekends.

Once the Dates and Frequency information is added, the Dose Settings and Dose Matrix will display.
