Minfos has collaborated with MIMS to incorporate their drug to drug and drug-allergy interaction alert modules into the Minfos Dispense workflow.

Using the MIMS up-to-date, evidence-based Clinical Decision Support modules, Minfos provides pharmacists with clear warnings on interactions between drugs, and alerts for a patient’s known allergy events directly from Minfos Dispense.

Having direct access to this information can assist pharmacists in delivering more efficient patient care as well as helping to reduce the likelihood of medication errors.

Allergy Alerts

When dispensing a drug, Minfos will refer to the Allergy List in the selected patient’s record. It will look for either a direct match, or whether the selected drug belongs to the same generic class of recorded allergies.

To maintain allergies in Minfos:

From the Dispense Form, with a customer selected:

1. Click Change f3 or press [F3] to edit the customer.

The Customer Editing window is displayed.

2. Click the Medical tab.

3. In the Allergy List groupbox enter an active ingredient into the Generic field and press [Tab]. 

The Generic Search window is displayed.

4. Highlight the required generic and click OK.

Note: Up to six generics can be recorded in the Allergy List in the customer record. It is only necessary to list one generic per therapeutic group.

5. Click OK to save the changes.

During dispensing, the following scenarios are possible:

• No Allergy Alert is displayed when drug is selected: If the dispensed drug does not interact with any listed allergies in the patient’s Allergy List, then no message is displayed
• Allergy alert displayed due to Matching Generic: When the active ingredient of the selected drug is listed as a known allergy
  For example, if it is recorded that the patient as allergic to "Amiodarone", then when APO-AMIODARONE TAB 200MG 30 is dispensed, the following message is displayed:
• Allergy alert displayed due to Matching Generic Class: When the active ingredient of the selected drug is in the same generic class as a drug recorded in the patient's Allergy List
  For example, Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid and Amoxicillin belong to the same generic class - Penicillin. If the patient is allergic to Amoxicillin, then when dispensing CLAVULIN-DUO-FT TAB 875 MG-125MG 10, which has the active ingredient Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid, the following message is displayed:
  
• When multiple generics of the same class are specified in the patient's Allergy List, one alert message per class is displayed
• Allergy alert displayed due to Generic Cross Sensitivity: When the active ingredient of the selected drug has cross sensitivity with the generic specified in the patient's Allergy List
  For example, the generic class of Amoxicillin – Penicillin, has cross-sensitivity with that of Cefaclor – Cephalosporins. If the patient is allergic to Amoxicillin, then when drug Cefaclor-GA tab 375MG 10, is being dispensed, the following message displayed:

Drug Information Database

Allergy Alerts are also displayed in the Drug Information Database window. This can be accessed by clicking Drug Info f8 or pressing [F8] on the Dispense Form.
