PBS Changes to Adalimumab for April 2021

Please refer to the PBS factsheet for further information about this change.

Key information from the factsheet

The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) listings for adalimumab will be amended on 1 April 2021 with the following biosimilars listed alongside the originator brand Humira®.

Brand name

Strength & form

Amgevita®

40mg syringe & pen, 20 mg syringe

Hadlima®

40mg syringe & pen

Hyrimoz®

40mg syringe & pen

Idacio®

40mg syringe & pen

These additions to the PBS will result in a number of changes to the circumstances in how adalimumab may be prescribed and dispensed. In particular, the pack size of many existing PBS codes has changed from 1 to reflect the number of items inside the pack.

 For example:

  • PBS code 9186L (adalimumab 40 mg/0.8 mL injection, 6 x 0.8 mL syringes) was previously dispensed as a quantity of 1 (1 pack of 6).
  • From 1 April 2021, PBS code 9186L (adalimumab 40 mg/0.8 mL injection, 6 x 0.8 mL syringes) should be dispensed as a quantity of 6 (1 pack of 6).
Note
When dispensing repeat prescriptions, the quantity field in the Minfos Dispense Form is automatically populated with the previously dispensed quantity. As this may be a quantity of 1 for prescriptions prescribed prior to 1 April 2021, ensure you check and manually update the quantity field if required.
