Eligible items can be dispensed directly from a patient’s NRMC (National Residential Medication Chart) without a separate prescription.

Note: Ensure the patient has been added to a Nursing Home and that the RACF ID for the nursing home has been entered. Refer to Add a Patient to a Nursing Home and Add RACF ID to a Nursing Home for more information.

This article covers:

Dispensing a standard NRMC prescription

1. From the Dispense Form, select the patient.

When you select a patient who is a resident at an RACF that is set up to use NRMC, the Dispense Form changes to enable dispensing from an NRMC:

a. The Chart Date textbox is displayed. This textbox is empty, by default. Once a date has been entered, the Stop Date icon is displayed (see option c).

Note: 
The chart cycle expires up to 4 months from the the Start Date, therefore is valid to the last day of the 4th month: e.g.
Chart State Date is 15/10/23, the Chart End Date will be 31/01/24 (remainder of October + 3 months)
Chart State Date is 29/10/23 the Chart End Date will be 31/01/24 (remainder of October + 3 months)
Chart State Date is 1/11/23 the Chart End Date will be 28/02/23 (remainder of November + 3 months)

b. The RACF ID textbox is populated with the RACF ID of the patient’s nursing home.

c. The Stop Date icon is displayed.

 - indicates no Stop Date has been entered (default)

 - indicates a Stop Date has been entered

2. In the Chart Date textbox, enter the NRMC’s chart date, in DD/MM/YYYY format, then press [Tab]

Note: Many of the standard fields on the Dispense Form are not required when dispensing from an NRMC and are disabled.

3. In the Rx Date textbox, enter the start date of the item you are dispensing, and then press [Tab].

4. In the Drug field, enter the required drug details and press [Tab] to search.

The Possible Matches Found window is displayed. The green https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/aus-cdn.freshdesk.com/data/helpdesk/attachments/production/51004190473/original/ju0NFq2sO1djPF5sz2T0_ymWeBspCptoaQ.png?1590725458 icon identifies eligible drugs that can be dispensed from an NRMC.

  • If you select an item that is ineligible to be dispensed from an NRMC the following Warning is displayed. This warning can be dismissed and the dispensing process can be completed

5. Highlight the required item, in this example, Amoxil Cap 500mg and click Okay.

6. If required, click the Stop Date  icon.

The Enter Stop Date window is displayed.7. Enter the required Stop Date and click OK.

The Stop Date icon is updated . Refer to Manage a National Residential Medication Chart Stop Date for more information.

8. Dispense the prescription, following your usual procedure.

Note: If you attempt to dispense the same drug, to the same patient, on the same day from an NRMC. The following Same Day Dispensing prompt is displayed:

Click OK to close the prompt.


Edit or view a recorded Stop Date for an NRMC prescription

From the Dispense Form with a RACF patient selected and the Chart Date entered the Stop Date icon is displayed.

1. Click the  icon.

The Enter Stop Date window is displayed.2. Either update the Stop Date and click OK or if the date is correct click OK or Cancel to close.


Dispensing a Streamlined Authority NRMC prescription

1. Dispense the supply, following the standard Minfos procedure, refer to the Dispensing a standard NRMC prescription section. 

2. Press [Enter] or click Okay to save and process the script.

3. Enter the Streamlined Authority code from the NRMC.

4. Complete dispensing.

Note: Minfos does not prompt for an Authority Prescription Number for NRMC streamlined scripts. This is auto-generated by Minfos and provided as part of the claim to PBS Online.

 

Dispensing a non-streamlined Authority NRMC prescription

1. Dispense the supply, following the standard Minfos procedure, refer to the Dispensing a standard NRMC prescription section. 

2. Press [Enter] or click Okay to save and process the script.

3. Enter the Authority Number from the NRMC.

4. Complete dispensing.


Dispensing a non-NRMC prescription to an NRMC patient

1. From the Dispense Form, select the RACF patient.

2. Leave the Chart Date textbox empty.

3. In the Rx Date textbox, enter the prescription date of the item you are dispensing, and then press [Tab]. 

4. Complete dispensing.
